2012 belgian open

Six IKKU athletes attended the Belgian open in Leuven, the event as always was very well run with 6 tatamis running over the course of the day catering for 600 competitors.

John Connolly took charge of the squad for the day and also coached other National squad members on behalf of O.N.A.K.A.I.

Three of the IKKU athletes were successful at the event with Gordon Smyth taking the silver medal in the mens +84kg, losing out narrowly in the final by 12 points to 11. Casey May Stanley and Justyne Collins both took bronze medals in their categories. Cormac Collins and Emily Geraghty both won their first rounds but both went out in round two.

The squad are now preparing for the Paris Open and Wasquehal Open on January 19th and 27th.
